A 1947 survey found that 82 out of every 100 Americans were radio listeners. What were they listening to? Long before music dominated the airwaves, radio drama entertained countless people sitting next to their radio sets, waiting to be launched on to a new adventure, or scared by this weeks ghoulish monster, or rocketed off to another world entirely. Though the "golden age" of radio ended in the early 1960's, some of those programs survive and hold up surprisingly well even today.
